Keeping active and making sure we get regular exercise into our daily routine is something we should strive to do, but sometimes it isn’t always easy. The fact is, when you mention exercising, most people think that they need to head to the gym or take up a rigorous exercise class. This isn’t true. In fact, most of our hobbies can help us get that little bit of exercise into our day without us even realising we are exercising.

Walking.

Walking is a great hobby to have and one that pretty much most of us can do. Make a promise to yourself that you will get out of the house, even if it is for 15 minutes a day to get some fresh air and go for a walk. You can then build on this and extend your walking time or even terrain to help you get active, stay fit and keep moving. The best part is, walking is free. All you need is a comfy pair of shoes.

Golf.

It may seem you aren’t doing much, but walking around a golf course or even practising your swing can help you get the blood pumping, raise your heartbeat and get you working up a little bit of a sweat. If you are new to golfing either as a sport or for leisure, then make you look for the best golf balls for beginners and get advice on the right equipment and techniques to help you get started.

Gardening

Indulging in some gardening will help you not only get outdoors and get some fresh air but also get in the all-important exercise. Mowing the lawn, digging up weeds, planting new flowers or cultivating the soil ready for new bulbs and seeds to be planted all help you keep active.

Gardening also has the added bonus that you get to enjoy the fruits of your labour and appreciate the beautiful landscape you have created and maintained all year round. If you don’t have a garden, why not volunteer in the community or help your neighbours. This will help you connect with other like-minded people and give your new hobby an added boost.

Music

For those who always have a tune in their heart and a song on their lips, then why not indulge your passion for music by getting moving to the beats. You don’t even have to leave home. Play your favourite music as you clean the house or the car and get active whilst indulging on your favourite songs.

If you like the social aspect of music and dancing, you can look to join a dance class or club or even take up aerobics, Zumba or line dancing.

However, you like to move and enjoy music, the main thing is you are enjoying yourself and keeping active at the same time.

There is no point in forcing yourself if you don’t enjoy it. And pretty soon it will ruin your love for your hobby but taking up a new hobby that helps to keep you active and healthy is always a good decision no matter how you choose to do it.
